Good News for Dry Eyes!

A recent study has found encouraging results for the millions of patients who suffer from dryness of the eyes. In the past, treatment for dry eyes has consisted primarily of lubricating drops. This is still known to be very useful for patients with dry eyes, along with sometimes occluding the drainage duct for the eye with punctal plugs, and also sometimes in conjunction with a medicated eye drop called Restasis. This latest study showed that patients with dry eyes also benefit from taking oral supplements that include omega-3 fatty acids. The supplement used by the patients included both fish oil sourced omega-3 as well as flax seed-sourced omega-3 fatty acids. After three months of taking the oral supplements, 70% of patients with previous dry eye symptoms were symptom-free.
